Medical Cabinet A well stocked
medicine cabinet can help you treat many everyday illnesses
at home since minor illnesses or accidents can happen at
anytime. It is therefore worthwhile being prepared by
keeping some of the following first aid and simple remedies
to treat minor complaints and accidents in your own Medical
Cabinet - examples include:
- Paracetamol and aspirin (children
under 16 and people with asthma and stomach problems
should not take aspirin)
- Paracetamol (e.g. Calpol) or
Ibuprofen syrups (or both) for children
- Mild laxatives
- Anti-diarrhoeal medicines (e.g.
Imodium)
- Rehydration mixture (e.g. Dioralyte)
- Indigestion remedy (e.g. antacids)
- Travel sickness tablets
- Antihistamine for hay fever and
allergies
- Sunscreen - SPF15 or higher
- Sunburn treatment
- Tweezers
- Sharp scissors
- Thermometer
- Selection of plasters, elastic
bandages and dressings
- Non-absorbent cotton wool
- Anti-bacterial washes and/or cream
Please remember:
- Keep the medicine cabinet in a
secure, locked place, well out of reach of small
children.
- Always read the instructions and use
the suggested doses.
- Watch expiry dates - do not keep or
use medicines past their sell-by date.
- Take all unwanted and out of date
medicines back to the pharmacy for disposal. This stops
medicines getting into the water supply and the wrong
people getting hold of medicines that have been
carelessly thrown away.
